David Skelhon started his career as a freelance photographer
and writer 20 years ago in the UK. He worked primarily for adventure
sports magazines, specializing in sailing and mountaineering. He
co-authored four regional guide books and edited an international
sailing magazine. As a commercial pilot, Skelhon made a natural
progression into the demanding field of aerial photography in 2002.
He has flown 1500 hours in the BC mountains and is still fascinated
by the many features that are normally hidden or inaccessible to
the ground-based photographer. He is a member of the Professional
Photographers of Canada.

Artists Statement
Patterns and designs resonate deep within me. With a mixture of
patience, concentration and luck, they are to be found almost
everywhere - through a microscope or from an aeroplane.
Aerial perspectives are the most challenging. My preferred platform
for aerial photography is a slow-flying ultralight aeroplane.
Some of the most striking patterns are on a huge scale, originating
from the interaction between humans and nature. They are amazing
designs, unconsciously created on the canvas of our earth by man's
agricultural and industrial endeavours. Only a photographer with
an aeroplane is able to capture these unique images.
The digital medium allows me fine image control, often difficult
to achieve in conventional photography. Most of my prints are
giclee on fine art paper. I love working with the texture and
heavy weight of this paper and the brilliant pigmented inks are
archival quality.
