Biography
Jenny Long is a personality who loves capturing personalities through
painting. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2003 at Okanagan
University College (OUC) in Kelowna. Before OUC, Long lived in Denmark
for a year, which allowed her the opportunity to absorb a foreign
culture and in traveling, realized her desire for visual expression.
Upon graduation, Long was honoured with a President's Purchase Award
for her painting, along with an exhibition invitation for a local
commercial gallery. Since then, the Art Ark Gallery has shown and
sold Long's paintings as her style matures and continues to become
well established within the Okanagan.
Long has been busy over the last few years responding to a seemingly
constant demand within the realm of both public and private commissions.
One most memorable projects was creating portraits to hang in The
Black Pearl Lounge & Oyster Bar in Penticton, B.C. This exposure
allowed for Long to expand her market within her hometown, and has
opened the door to many other artistic avenues such as private commissions
and teaching. Long's playful, intuitive drawing techniques are shared
with her two young students who in turn rejuvenate and remind her
creative voice to remain true to its own unique expression.

Artist Statement
I want to merge the school of abstract expressionism with the act
of portraiture. In doing so, the paint
itself is figurative-it is just as important as the person it is
describing. The language of the ground is
heated by emotive, instinctual play with the paint, which allows
for the figure to become more than an
individual caught in time, but an essence of being.
