Artist Statement
During the last two years of my studies at the University College
of the Fraser Valley, I have been exploring the theme of popular
culture through environment, technology, and society.
I am continuously seeking and discovering new ways to convey my
ideas through art. Our society is a moving tapestry of issues: sexuality,
pop culture, violence, and religion. My art probes the shifting
edges of these issues, creating new balances and interplays among
them.
Although I am proficient in a number of forms, I prefer sculpture.
Three dimensions allow me more scope for expressing the transitory
nature of earthworks, disintegration, and evolution. I choose materials
to express my ideas and explore the relationship between subject
matter and media. Sculpture expresses a more complicated reality
than I find possible in two dimensions.
Our age doesn't ask for permanence; mentalities seem disposable
and cultures unstable. My art doesn't offer permanence --only a
voice and a moment of balance in an effort to conceptualize the
rapidly shifting realities of the twenty-first century.
