Jim Kalnin currently resides in Oyama,British Columbia and is
a Professor at Okanagan University College in the Visual Art department.
Jim studied at the Vancouver School of Art from 1964 to 1969.

Artist Statement
I live in a world that is largely organic. I see the patterns
and rhythms of nature contrasted by the geometric, industrial
thrust of modern human culture, in many different ways. These
large and small mixed media works on paper draw from contrasts
between nature and civilization.
The geometric lines and forms develop tensions in the images that,
to me, speak of the imbalance in our world at this time. Similarities
between these images and specific events such as the collapse
of the World Trade Towers are accidental, or at least subconscious,
yet such events are the symptoms of tensions that I notice and
work with in drawings
